CONSTRUCTS
CONSTRUCT: to make or form by combining or arranging parts or elements.
The Constructs series began in my sketchbook, a space free from the expectation of producing finished work. Through quick, intuitive thumbnail drawings, experimentation became central to the process. These early studies formed the foundation for an ongoing body of work that examines perception through shape, color, and line, asking what is flat, what is dimensional, and what is imagined.
The series now includes more than 86 works on 20 × 23 inch raw canvas. Using line, shape, and color, I incorporate refurbished canvas scraps, acrylic paint, collage, and wooden dowels to build forms that exist between painting and object. The raw canvas remains visible, emphasizing process, structure, and material presence.
The Constructs hold tension between flatness and volume, control and improvisation, clarity and ambiguity. Individually, the works operate as independent images; together, they form a cohesive field that engages the viewer's movement and perception.
